Most Important Mistakes Men Make In Morning / Early Routine Mistakes That RUIN Your Day And How To AVOID Them

Have You face such situation every morning
You know what I’m talkin’ about…

  • Wake up groggy
  • Snooze 12 times
  • Throw on wrinkled clothes
  • Spill coffee on yourself
  • Skip breakfast
  • Can’t find your car keys
  • Late to work (on presentation day)
  • So much in Hurry
*Facepalm*
The day hasn’t even started…
and it’s already spiraling outta control.
So what can you do?
Well…prevention is better than cure.
Your morning routine will dictate how awesome or poor your day will be.
This article is going to cover the 7 common mistakes that ruin your mornings.

Every guy deserves a close, smooth shave.

1 – No Well-Timed Routine

In a perfect world, everybody would plan things well. People would treat their minutes like cash.
They’d always spend time wisely. And far more people would successfully balance their professional and personal lives. Not just one or the other.
Well – we’re human. We don’t have the ability to spend every single second productively.
But we can at least take advantage of our mornings by having a nice morning routine.
So what exactly makes a morning routine good? For starters, you should treat it like it’s part of your job.
You have to establish rules. Strictly follow an agenda. Each task needs a specific number of minutes. Nothing is done randomly.
Now, chances are you currently have a routine and don’t realize it – but it’s not necessarily well-timed. The following questions will confirm whether or not that routine needs adjustment:
  • Is your routine solely based on “it only takes X minutes to get to work”?
  • Do you usually cut it close when traveling to the office?
  • Do you feel like you’re constantly rushing in between tasks?
  • Do you lack moments to just pause and relax?
If you answer yes to any of those, you’ll want to re-evaluate your routine. It may not give you enough margin (or buffer time) before and after your tasks during the morning.
But I’m not saying you should starting getting up at 5 am (remember #1). It’s better to find out which tasks you can shorten or transfer to another part of the day.
If you normally cook ham and eggs for breakfast, try making a PB&J sandwich in the morning (or do it the night before and leave it in the fridge) so you can eat it on the way to work. See if it buys you time to handle everything else with more ease.
Speaking of breakfast…
Manage your Time

2 – Going To Bed Late The Night Before

This one leads to a morning mistake of not getting enough sleep.
Sleep is not only for the weak. It’s the best way to stay strong all day.
Are all-nighters worth bragging about? Maybe they’re fine once in a while when they can’t be avoided. But otherwise – staying up late constantly isn’t a sign of working hard. It’s more of working too much, working inefficiently, or mismanaging your time.
Without enough sleep, you’ll start the day with a mind that’s not 100% energized – no matter how many times you give yourself a good slap on the face.
The worst part? Imagine your brain failing in the departments of common sense and alertness. A couple of Huffington Post readers know how that feels – and were brave enough to share their own sleep deprivation stories online:
  • One guy admits spending 5 minutes looking for his cell phone one morning, telling his girlfriend how frustrating it was. Totally understandable… except he was talking on the cell phone all along!
  • Another guy recalls the day he came to a meeting to do a presentation. But as prepared as he felt – plot twist. The briefcase he’d been carrying all morning was actually a backgammon board!
Yikes! It’s good that they can now get a kick out of those “fail” moments. But if there’s anything they must’ve learned – it’s how sleep isn’t for the weak. It’s for those who start the day strong (and smart).
But oddly enough, more than 90 million Americans experience side effects of sleep deprivation every night. And studies suggest they can range from less obvious stuff – like a lack of focus or attention – to crying over small things, or a lower reaction time while driving or pouring coffee!
Speaking of coffee – don’t rely on it to overcome sleep deprivation. I enjoy my morning coffee as much as the next person. But I also know caffeine has its limitations.
The National Sleep Foundation recommends 7-8 hours of sleep (or 9 if possible) for the average adult. I second that – and I’ll go as far as saying this:
If you can sleep well every night, it becomes 90% easier to avoid the other mistakes on this list.

3 – Not Jumping Out Of Bed

Watch this actor utter the exact same line twice. (If you’re a Game of Thrones fan like me, you’ll probably hate the guy in both cases – but try to watch objectively.)

Version A: “My God, it’s sunny outside…”
Version B: “My God, it’s sunny outside…”
Be honest – which version represents how you feel when you wake up in the morning? And which one portrays the kind of mood you prefer?
Now, if it was only that easy to channel Version B once you get out of bed. I can say it’s not an overnight skill. It relies on your ability to unlearn negative habits.

But if you apply the following practices, you’ll eventually train your mind to rise and shine – and jump out of bed like a giddy kid on Christmas morning.

Sleep well (review #1).
Place your alarm clock on the opposite side of the room, which will force you to physically leave the bed so you can stop the ringing.
NO SNOOZE. Pressing snooze doesn’t just mean you’d rather sleep some more. It’s like saying you don’t want to start the day yet – which sets a negative tone for everything else.
When the alarm goes off – be excited! It’s a new start to another mini-chapter in life. So wish yourself a good morning instead of saying “S***!”
Have something to look forward to upon waking up. It can be a simple coffee treat or 20 minutes with your wife and kids at the breakfast table.
Smile! Count your blessings each morning. Enjoy the calm before the storm. Think about all the serious matters later at work – not before.

4-Not Having Everything Ready

According to Confucius, what does success depend on for all things?
Intelligence?
Talent?
The answer is preparation – not so glamorous, is it?
But it makes perfect sense. Almost anything in life needs some preparation to be done WELL.
The same goes for your mornings. You want to wake up with all the “weapons” in place. Like a lone ranger who’s battling against the morning clock.
Your time is limited – so your best way of survival is to avoid delays and hesitations.
That means having your clothes ironed and ready, loading gas in the car, and putting cash in your wallet beforehand. It’s not just preparing for what’s going to happen – but also for the unexpected.
And if you travel a lot like I do, you might think it’s hard to get a nice shave every time. Many factors go out of your hands – from smaller bathroom spaces to the quality of foreign razors. So how do you best avoid shaving disasters when you’re abroad?
Thankfully – we have Dollar Shave Club to help! I’ve used their razor blades for over a year. And I can tell you they’re one of the top brands for busy, everyday men who shave.
Don’t you just hate those mornings when you’ve run out of blades or your razor suddenly goes bad? The guys at DSC feel your pain. That’s why their doorstep delivery service provides you with one affordable razor & 4 razor cartridges – plus a fresh supply of cartridges every month!
Join the Club – and you can forget about going out of your way to buy new products. You can plan a last-minute trip out of town, and you’ll have shaving equipment at home that’s easy to pack.
Btw – they also sell some fantastic high-quality grooming products (skin care, hair styling or shower products) that can be home-delivered just as easily.

5 – Skipping Breakfast

Breakfast is the one time of day that I have to spend with my kids. The rest of the day I’m working. If I miss breakfast with them, I’d rarely see them.
Also, if I don’t eat the mic will pick up the stomach growls on my YouTube videos.
Moms say it best – never skip breakfast. It’s the most important meal of the day.
It doesn’t have to be elaborate – or heavy for that matter. You only need something healthy, easy to digest and convert into energy.
Carbs are your best choice. If you can manage to squeeze in some fruit that is fine.

6 – Not Making Time For Self Development

Your brain is most on fire in the morning.
Having time set aside for personal development will be the best use of that time.
Things like:
  • Meditation
  • Going on a run
  • Reading
  • Listening to a podcast or audiobook
I think people underestimate the value of short morning activities. If you think about it – do we work to live, or do we live to work?
Sure – we don’t get paychecks from exercising, reading or chatting with our loved ones. Why spare some of your precious minutes in the morning for those things – especially if you always have the rest of the day after work?
It’s all about personal development. Getting the fuel for not just your mind and body (to complement your breakfast) – but also for your soul. This fuel goes beyond the endorphins your body releases or any profound ideas that enter your mind.
Recreational morning activities give you a sense of fulfillment from the very start. You wind up having all the more motivation to go to work, perform well, and make it a kick ass day.

7- Not Keeping Your Valuables Properly

Let’s go back to the men who shared their hilarious stories about sleep deprivation:
Mr. Missing Cell Phone:
Could the whole thing have happened because he was caught off guard – by not finding his phone at a particular spot?

He could’ve picked it up from somewhere else before heading to that area, and then his worries took over completely. (Granted, he wasn’t 100% focused.)
Mr. Wrong Briefcase:
He had also been plagued by a lack of sleep. But could it be possible that (A) the real briefcase was not where it was supposed to be or (B) the backgammon board happened to be at the wrong place?

So both of those stories actually bring up a second moral: always have a designated area for your wallet, phone, keys and other everyday essentials. Don’t use locations which contain other items – they’re hot spots for clutter and mix-ups.
Try using a container (like a trinket) that’s striking enough to remind you of where to keep your valuables. If you can charge your phone on that same spot, keep the charger in there as well.
If you use your phone as an alarm – try testing if you’ll be able to leave it right there and hear it ringing from your bedroom. Maybe that distance will do a great job in getting your butt off the bed – helping you go about your mornings perfectly.
